The House of the Lord Series for Family Devotion 4

What to do when you leave the House of the Lord

Focus Scripture

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

In this series of lessons, we have learned the importance of the House of the Lord, how to come to the house of the Lord and what to do while in the house of the Lord. This lesson will speak to us of what to do when we leave the house of the Lord.

Our first responsibility is to be an example to others. Paul writes in 1 Timothy 4:12, “…be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” The world needs to see people who have been changed by the power of God.

In Isaiah 6, we read about the prophet’s experience. He got an upward experience when he saw the Lord high and lifted up. He, then, got an inward vision of his own spiritual condition and was changed by the coal of fire from off the altar. Lastly, he got an outward vision of the needs of the lost. This is ultimately how it should be with us. When we leave the house of the Lord, we should feel a ‘go ye’ in our heart.

In Mark 1 beginning with verse 21, there is a story about Jesus going to the house of worship and teaching the Word of God with power and authority. An unclean spirit rose up and Jesus rebuked the spirit and cast it out of the individual. It had such an impact that verse 28 says, “And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.”

Somebody left the house of worship telling others about this newfound power in the house of the Lord and how it can change lives. They talked about Jesus. There is no greater subject you can talk about than Jesus Christ. For He alone can save the lost.
